Do We Come to Earth to Experience Real Love?

One of the most beautiful ideas I've come across in spirituality is that before we are born, our soul already knows love.

Not the kind of love we experience here on Earth, but unconditional love—the kind that simply exists without fear, judgment, or conditions.

If that's true, then it raises an interesting question.

If we already know love, why would we come here?

Perhaps it's because knowing and experiencing are not the same.

You can read about the ocean your entire life, but until you stand on the shore, feel the sand beneath your feet, and hear the waves crashing around you, you haven't truly experienced it.

Love may be much the same.

Before coming here, it’s possible we knew love as our natural state of being. There was no separation, no rejection, no heartbreak, no fear. Love simply was.

Earth offers something entirely different.

Here we experience loss.
We experience longing.
We experience disappointment, forgiveness, compassion, connection, and joy.

We know what it feels like to have our hearts broken... and what it feels like to heal.

We know what it feels like to feel alone... and then discover that we were never truly alone.

We know what it feels like to search for love everywhere outside ourselves... only to realize it had been quietly waiting within us all along.

Without contrast, I’m not sure that we would understand the depth of love's power.

Maybe it’s one of the gifts of being human.

Not that we came here because we lacked love.

But because we wanted to experience its many expressions.

To witness forgiveness after betrayal.

To feel compassion in the middle of suffering.

To choose kindness when anger would be the easier option.

To discover self-love after a lifetime of believing we weren't enough.

These experiences don't create love.

They reveal it.

I don't believe our soul comes to Earth empty, hoping to find something it doesn't already possess.

I believe it arrives already whole.

Life provides the experiences that allow us to recognize the incredible depth of what we have always been.

Maybe that's why so many people describe their spiritual awakening as "coming home."

Not because they found something new.

But because, through all of life's beauty and pain, they finally experienced what their soul had known all along.

Maybe it’s why we are here.

Not to become love...

But to experience it so deeply that it transforms the way we see ourselves and each other.

Bottom line, I believe Earth is where the soul comes to turn knowledge into experience, leaving with a wisdom that can only be gained by living it.
